Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"Went through a worksheet on radians and degree measures. This was review material, so the student was pretty comfortable with it."
"The student had his weekly problem worksheet, so we went over it - plotting another polynomial function by finding asymptotes and zeros. Then we forged ahead to the next section on functions slanted asymptotes. He is to start sending me some homework during the week."
"During this session with the student, we covered the relationship between sine and cosine, namely that they are Pythagorean and that sine^2(x) * cosine^2(x) = r^2, and we also covered how to draw the sine, cosine, tangent, secant and cosecant functions on a graph. Using a graph, we saw how the relationship of sine and cosine looked throughout the entire trig circle, namely that the values of sine and cosine make up the lengths of the sides of a right triangle with 1 being the length of the hypotenuse. After that we looked at how to graph some of these functions. We also manipulated a few base functions and saw how different changes were reflected on a graph."
"Today, we finished preparing for the student's midterm. She had a wide variety of problems and was able to solve for most by herself. There were some challenge problems where I presented a more simplified solution. Her attitude was positive throughout the session."
"The student and I reviewed for her final exam. We practiced graphing tangent and cotangent, transformations of sin and cos graphs, transformations of regular f(x) functions, solving word problems involving sin and cos, the unit circle, and inverse trig functions."
"We completed Module 5 by studying the use of multiple angle formulas and then working through the practice test and the module test. The student still needs to finish the discussion-based assessment and the tip of the day for this module and then he will be ready to study for the semester exam."
