I recently graduated from Kennesaw State University with a degree in high school math education. I've always been very passionate about mathematics, and ever since my first year of college when I started tutoring (both privately and through Mathnasium), I've loved being able to share that passion with my students! My goal is to help all of my students become curious and invested in math, and hopefully see that with the right framing, it can be fun and rewarding too.
With this goal in mind, my focus when I tutor is to help my students construct their own knowledge through guided problem-solving. I feel that simply showing a student how to do something is not sufficient for them to learn; for true learning to take place, it's not enough to understand the 'what' - you also need to understand the 'why' and 'how.' In my experience, this happens most effectively when you allow your student the freedom and autonomy to try different approaches; when you create a learning environment where making mistakes is a natural and necessary aspect of learning; and where you can adapt the content to be more meaningful to each student as an individual. In this way, students will have a deeper understanding of the material, and they will not only be able make connections across different subjects, but they will also be able to apply their learning to solve real-world problems.

I love math so, so much - even to the extent that I love doing math in my free time! I often mind myself thinking about algebra, geometry, and trigonometry problems in my free time, and then spending hours at the library or coffee shops working through them. These aren't problems from workbooks or online practice resources, either - I'm mostly just using my imagination, playing around with different ideas and seeing what interesting questions/solutions shake out by the end. Outside of just math, my two biggest passions are music and running! Although I can't really sing or play any instruments, I love listening to all kinds of music - from Aphex Twin to Charli XCX to Minor Threat to The Smiths - and am always looking to add to my vinyl collection. I've been into running ever since I joined my high school's cross country team when I was a sophomore, and I still compete to this day. I've run three marathons so far, reaching a personal record of 3:07 a few years ago, and have also run 16:30 for 5 kilometers. I recently joined Atlanta Track Club and am super excited to continue progressing and competing.
