Certified Tutor
I have a deep passion for writing and teaching English and history. I hold a bachelor's degree in economics from Barnard College and a master's degree in international relations from Johns Hopkins University. Additionally, I am a certified substitute teacher in Arizona, and I speak conversational Spanish. I have also taught English as a second language courses as a volunteer.
My approach to teaching is highly interactive, ensuring that learning is an enjoyable and engaging experience for each student. I genuinely enjoy working with children and strive to create a supportive and encouraging environment during every tutoring session.
When I tutor writing, I am keenly aware of the importance of clear, structured communication. Word choice, grammar, and an essay's logical flow all play a role in strong writing. I believe that mastering writing is not just about wordsit's about clearly communicating thoughts. To me, achieving clarity in writing is synonymous with achieving clarity in thinking.
As a former journalist, my news editors at Dow Jones provided rigorous training in both writing and editing, refining my skills to a professional level. I have studied English and English literature extensively at the college level. I also teach historya subject integral to my master's degree in international relations. I work with students from elementary to high school, as well as college students whose writing must adhere to academic style guides such as the Chicago Manual of Style.

I love to hike and appreciate being outdoors. I enjoy taking road trips to explore Southern Arizona. The region's scenery is stunning, and its history and blend of cultures are unique. Living in the area inspired me to photograph and write about life in the American Southwest on Substack. I cover topics such as architecture, art, culture, food, history, plants, and wildlife. I like to volunteer at nonprofit organizations. I recently volunteered at a wildlife rescue center where I took care of bobcats, javelinas, and skunks. I also fed injured hawks, kestrels, owls, quail, and roadrunners. I found it rewarding to watch them heal and return to the wild!
