Certified Tutor

I am currently pursuing my degree in civil engineering at the University of Calgary, and a graduate of the prestigious Foundations for the Future Charter Academy, which is fundamentally an academic and leadership focussed educational institution.

My passion for tutoring comes from my experiences as a teacher assistant in multiple different roles, as well as both formal and informal tutoring that I participated in throughout middle and high school. In these positions, I was a leader and mentor to students and peers, and often I conducted teaching and learning in 1-on-1, small group, and entire classroom settings. Along with becoming a better teacher of relevant learning material, I also understood the requirements of a diverse group of students. I became adept with teaching through building strong connections with students, peers, and teachers.

My teaching philosophy is based on incorporating scaffolded practice problems into traditional instruction. Scaffolded practice is starting with simple, fundamental practice problems and building on them with increasing difficulty in those problems. Furthermore, as a student's proficiency with content increases, they will have the opportunity to solve practice problems with more independence, but my support as a tutor will always be present.

My favorite subjects to tutor are mathematics, physics, and chemistry from K-12, because I achieved my highest level of academic excellence in these subjects during my formal education. Furthermore, this content is something that I apply and work with on a daily basis as I pursue my degree. Alongside these subjects, I also enjoy tutoring high school level calculus and K-10 English Language Arts.
