Kimberly: Melrose Park tutor
Certified Tutor
I have been teaching for 20 years and tutoring even longer as it was my way to pay for college. I have been working with young people for my entire life from babysitting as my first job, to being a counsellor at day camps to facilitating discussion and youth empowerment groups and then teaching.
I have a College Degree in Fine Arts, with a Women's studies Major, and Honour's degree in Kinesiology with a major in Outdoor Pursuits and a Bachelor of Education, with a science qualification.
As an outdoor enthusiast, I have taught white water kayaking, rock and ice climbing, as well as outdoor survival and developed nature-based science programs. I have taught in public and private schools, international, rural and urban, alternative and conventional.
I am a life learner myself, traveling since I was a teenager and have taught in Ghana, the Arctic, and in BC, Ontario and Quebec. My passion is science, as an advocate of science literacy, from human to natural sciences, including environmental education. Sharing the wonder of the world inside and around us, feels vital, especially at this time of our history. I also love language, its etymology and creative power.
What keeps me teaching and doing more one-on-one tutoring is to help students have the "aha" moments of understanding, of connecting to their curiosity and enjoyment of learning, be it Math, Science, or Language.

I love the outdoors, and enjoy, skiing, snowboarding, snowshoeing, hiking, kayaking, canoeing, and climbing. I am a nature nerd, I have developed a love of wild foraging, mycology, herbal medicine, organic gardening and farming, trying to live more sustainably and simply. I also devour books, especially audiobooks, and am a self-learner, taking workshops and online courses to keep developing the "muscle" of an organ that is my brain, always learning, to be an informed and active global citizen.
