Certified Tutor

I first discovered tutoring when I was in graduate school for art. In addition to art, I had an interest in writing and I noticed that a lot of artists had trouble writing. I became a tutor at the university reading and writing center specializing in art writing. I tutored undergraduate and graduate students of all levels and gave presentations. After graduating, I started teaching as an adjunct professor. Over the years I've taught various subjects including: drawing, two-dimensional design, printmaking, art seminars, art history, public speaking and writing. I've volunteered as a book club facilitator and served as a panel speaker at academic events. I've also taught at a museum and an art center. Overall, I've worked with students ranging in age from five years to senior citizens. I hold graduate degrees in art and writing and a BA in visual art and theatre.

From the beginning, it was obvious to me that every student has unique qualities and unique potential. There are many types of intelligence; whether you are good with your hands, books, computers, sports, music or none of the above, everyone has strengths and weaknesses.
Regardless of individual traits, everyone has the ability to improve the quality of their own lives through education.

Also, the classroom is not the only place to learn. Some of the best educational experiences of my life involved traveling, studying and living abroad. I agree with Augustine of Hippo that "the world is a book and those who do not travel read only one page." Hands-on experience, including athletics, can be valuable teachers, too. In sports, the hard work and discipline required combined with repeated opportunities to face challenges taught me a lot about dealing with stress and accomplishing goals. However, learning is not just about discipline. When I'm learning or teaching, I tend to find the fun in it, and I hope you will, too. I look forward to working with you!
