Lester
Certified Tutor
I am a graduate of Boise State University and University of Idaho. I have a Bachelor of Science and a Master of Arts in Political Science. My area of emphasis is in International Relations, but I have also studied political philosophy and American Government. While in graduate school at University of Idaho I worked as a tutor and became certified as a CRLA Level 3 Master Tutor. During my time as a tutor at UI, I worked with the TRiO program helping students with documented learning disabilities. I also worked with student athletes.
I am currently certified to tutor the following subjects: American History, European History, Geography, Political Science, Public Speaking, Social Sciences, Social Studies, and World History. I love to tutor both History and Political Science as those two subjects are personal passions of mine.
As a lifelong student, I am passionate about helping others achieve their educational goals. I currently work with the Boise School District as an AVID program tutor. I like being able to relate material to my tutees using examples which connect to their lives and experiences. I am not here to just give a student the answer to the question, but to help them find the answer. I also model test taking strategies to the students.
Outside of tutoring, I enjoy teaching martial arts to adults and children. I am also an avid reader and video gamer. My favorite series of books is the Dresden Files by Jim Butcher.

What is your teaching philosophy?
I don't simply want to be a resource for a student to find an answer from. I want to help that student learn how to find an answer on their own. I believe in teaching tactics and strategies to help on homework and tests.
What might you do in a typical first session with a student?
I would get to know the student so that I can tailor my tutoring to their interests and their academic pursuits.
