Certified Tutor

I am a born teacher. For as long as I can remember, I have had an intense passion for the written word. As I grew up, my voracious desire to read everything and anything I could get my hands on, morphed into a desire to share the joy of reading, analyzing, and interpreting with others; to show my friends, family, and even complete strangers what human insights were locked inside the great works of literature. Through reading, we can understand so much about ourselves, and through understanding, we can learn valuable lessons in both individuality and community. From there, we use the written word to express ourselves, sharing how we fit in, as individuals, into the wider world that has been so accurately drawn through literature for millennia.

I am a tutor because I want to help students gain an understanding of just how much expression is offered through English, and then give students the keys to participate in the discussion themselves through thoughtful expressions of writing. One of my most successful means of teaching language and literature is contextualization. I strive to show students just how relevant English is to them, personally. I keep up-to-date on current events and trends and work to connect what is going on right now with the subjects of those literary works that have come before. In terms of writing, I show students how to connect the dots from what they think and what interests them today to the rhetorical strategies and writing expectations that are part of the academic process.

In short, I am an excellent tutor because I find students were they are and imbibe them with the same excitement for the understanding and expression that is offered through English that I have.
