MCAT Tutoring review by Paris in Portsmouth
We completed passages in the book concerning equilibrium, acids and bases, the endocrine system, the circulatory system, and fluids. Overall, the student had the most difficult time with the physical science topics (fluids and acids and bases), which falls in line with her weaker skill sets in PS. Through several of the physics or chemistry questions we covered, she needed quite a bit of assistance in most of them in order to arrive at the answer. She did noticeably better in the biology topics and was able to provide good reasons for her answer choices in these topics. I instructed her to please go back and to continue reviewing the physical science topics.

MCAT Tutoring review by Travis in Portsmouth
We primarily worked on verbal reasoning strategy and practiced with three different verbal reasoning passages. The test is approaching and the student is uncertain as to whether she wants to meet tomorrow or wants to do her own study since it is a few days before she takes the exam. I let her know that my schedule is flexible and I can meet with her any time from an hour to three hours if she wishes tomorrow evening and she just needs to decide by noon tomorrow. She appreciated the flexibility that I've allowed our sessions to have -- I know that if you are taking the MCAT that week it really helps to not feel too locked into a schedule. She found today's lesson quite useful and I think she is increasingly seeing the advantage of the strategies we've discussed.

We continued into critical evaluation of text passages. Explicit and implicit concepts were instructed and we completed an exercise in identification of implicit content within any passage. This was not an easy topic, but the student made good headway. We reviewed the practice test given yesterday and explained the reasoning. He will be given another practice test and we have scheduled another session for Monday.

After quickly going over one of the student's verbal questions, we started going through some psychology content review. At first, we talked about some concepts that she was conflating which I helped her clarify, and then we went into more specifics. We started to go through some of the psychology questions provided by her review sheet, and we discussed stress responses and abnormal psychology. We went over some of the psychotic disorders, then the personality disorders, and from there we branched out. We did briefly go over some biochemistry.
