Biology Tutoring review by Alesha in Chesterfield
We went over the student's homework that covered topics related to moles, molar ratios, stoichiometry problems, gas law problems. We went over quite a few stoichiometry problems, converting grams of a reactant to moles using molar mass to calculate how much product was formed. I tried to reinforce how important it is to write everything down, identify the known's, unknowns, and what the questions is asking you to find. Tried to impress how important organization and following a blueprint is for these type of problems. Overall, session went well, she catches on quickly.

In preparation for her upcoming midterm, the student and I spent three hours reviewing various topics in chemistry. For each topic, I spent roughly 10-15 minutes lecturing and explaining the material in depth. These topics included: -Stoichiometry: The branch of chemistry that deals with the relative quantities of reactants and products in chemical reactions. -The Ideal Gas Law (PV=nRT): The equation of state of a hypothetical ideal gas. -Acid and base chemistry: Titrations and identifying acids and bases. -Balancing net ionic equations -Identifying functional groups within organic molecules -Identifying reactions in organic chemistry.

Biology Tutoring review by Matthew in Chesterfield
During today's session I helped the student review for a Chemistry exam. We reviewed with the help of a study guide, and covered the vocabulary and topics listed. Specifically we discussed the history of the discovery of the atom, starting with the Greek model based on Dalton's Theory, followed by J.J. Thompson's pudding plum model postulated after the discovery of charged particles using a cathode ray tube. Next, we looked at Rutherford's gold-foil experiment which lead to the discovery of the nucleus. Finally we talked about energy levels, ground and excited states, and the bright light spectrum, which helped Bohr theorize the energy level states of the electron present in the Bohr model of the atom. After working through these four models all of the vocabulary and concepts were well defined as they fit into the bigger context of the history of the atom. I have high expectations for the student on the upcoming exam, as his progress is excellent, as usual.

The student is retaking her Biology Unit 2 test tomorrow, so we spent today working on Biology. We created flashcards with important biologists and their contributions to cell theory, aspects of cell theory, and the structures of the cell and their functions. We reviewed the flashcards several times, and she practiced labeling a diagram of a cell with the different parts of the cell. We also discussed in detail the differences between plant and animal cells. We are meeting again tomorrow, so we will continue reviewing the cell biology material, and we will practice test questions that she might see on her test.
