"The student and I had a great class today. This was the beginning of a new unit. I have a Chinese story that I think is a good fit for her age and experience level. It allowed us to engage some new vocabulary in a grammar in a purposeful and exciting way, exactly what this kind of material is supposed to do, so I was pleased! Topics covered today include calling on the phone, animal names, and the conditional mood. Our next meeting will pick up where we left on the story."
"Today we did a review on conversation - meeting people, making plans, and going out. We also did a review on numbers - the student was asked to describe the Chinese number system. We discussed how to sign 0 - 10. The student wrote a simple conversation in English on the whiteboard, and then we translated a conversation from English to Chinese orally. "
"Today we first began our session with "five chess" game, they wanted to build an airplane with the chess pieces, so I let them build while practice saying phrases like: are you ready? yes, or no; we also practiced saying numbers and colors. After the game, I started to read them a new book I brought called "I love daddy", in this little Children's textbook, they learnt how to say: "daddy, me, rabbit, love and sleep". Finally, we played their favorite app to practice identifying and writing simple characters; today they enjoyed the writing part the most."
"Today we reviewed text in Lesson 1 through Lesson 5. I taught the 12 months in Lesson 7, and then we reviewed vocabulary of Lesson 1 through Lesson 6. The student learned 4 new verbs in Lesson 6, and practiced making sentences. She also learned and practiced ancillary verbs. Her homework is to review text in Lesson 6."
"We are working on new chapters of the text for our next session. The student is making significant progress in understanding the new grammar patterns and is making flashcards to memorize new vocabulary. Her understanding of sentence structures has also improved, as well as her ability to use them with varying vocabulary and scenarios. She was given an additional text through the AP Mandarin program for preparation for the AP exam in May."
"We continued on the unit 2 PowerPoint materials. We did more practice on the listening and speaking skills. I also provided additional explanations on the materials. The student stated that he got an 88 on the last test. "
