Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"Topics covered in this session include multiplication word problems and spelling. The student was able to do the one part word problems with ease, and her multiplication fact fluency seems to be improving. However, the student struggled a bit with multiple part word problems, but was able to figure out the different operations needed to solve the problem. We were able to complete her math homework and her spelling homework. As for spelling, the student did very well and appears to be understanding the sounds and corresponding spelling of the words."
"We continued with geometry and covered circles. We talked about all aspects of the circle, including "Pie." The student did quite well! We spent the entire session discussing the concepts, and then completing examples of it. He was quite inquisitive and asked excellent questions! He was very curious of the material and seemed to enjoy every moment! Every topic we covered, he would ask to do problems and/or ask about a particular area to be discussed further! I enjoy our sessions. Positive reinforcement and building the material off previous sessions. He asked that I leave him worksheets, which I did and he was excited! That is terrific to see a young man take such an effort in improving his skills! No concerns, and every win possible for a session like this!"
"We covered adding, subtracting, multiplying, and dividing fractions today in our session. The student had a great attitude and learned a lot. Adding fractions took her a little while to get the hang of, but she caught on after doing practice problems. Today's session went great!"
"We covered decimals and basic operations today. I connected with the student's teacher earlier this week, and she told me they are still working on decimals - adding, subtracting, rounding, place value, etc. We warmed up with some drills on multiplication and division using online flashcards, and then we reviewed the homework I assigned last week, which covered addition/subtraction of numbers with decimals. She did well on the first page of homework, but will need to redo the second page because she completed the problems with addition instead of subtraction. I also gave her a brain teaser word problem that required multiple steps with decimals. We ended the session with a couple of online math games. I also assigned an additional page of homework, in addition to the page that she is going to do over."
"We covered estimation and regrouping with subtraction, which adds on estimation from addition last week. The student needed help with place value in subtraction on her homework, so we went over that in detail. She did well with estimation. She did Wednesday's math homework and started her rock science project."
"We covered expanding and simplifying multiplication problems, estimation, and reviewing the 7's times tables for a quiz the next day. I taught him an elementary song that will help him commit his 7's to memory. We also went over spelling homework that he had which he had a strong understanding of. The student seems to understand the concepts, but rushes through the work and selects an answer when he knows it is not correct. I am trying to teach him to slow down, focus, and analyze the choices to select the right answer the first time through. This is our first session since he has returned to school from summer break, so we'll keep working on this."
