"Today the student and I covered vocabulary that he is learning in school. We grouped together the cognates to facilitate his remembering the terms and we broke down the different vocabulary in a way that he is able to remember it. The vocabulary was not just simple terms but short phrases as well for conversational Spanish when discussing friends. We also worked on the eight affirmative commands and practiced conjugating in the irregular form."
"The student and I discussed his previous Biology test. He said he felt extremely confident except for one thing. He achieved an 83% (52/62) on the test, which raised his overall grade by six percentage points. He is very happy with his progress and gains confidence as a student. We did not have a plethora of material to cover today but previewed his Chapter 8 Lecture PowerPoint and filled out his first set of class notes in preparation for tomorrow. He picks up on new material more quickly each time we meet and has begun to hone in on the strategies that work for him."
"The student noted that even though she got 18/20 on her most recent quiz in math, the test on the same subject had disappointing results. We will review it when she gets it back. Meanwhile, we covered algebraic formulas for circles, including how to use completing the square to arrive in standard form. We spent most of the class reviewing for her chemistry quiz, topics like limiting reagent and stoich coefficients, to which she was an absolute natural."
"The student and I spent some time at the beginning of the session reviewing the progress of the week, and planned for his course of study tomorrow, over the weekend, and for the beginning of next week, during which he has an exam, a quiz, and his SAGES paper due. We spent the rest of the session revising his SAGES paper, including reading an academic article, responding to peer review feedback, and adding more to make the scope of the paper more robust."
"The student and I met to go over the work he has begun for the second 9-week portion of the school year. We discussed how he can continue to stay on top of his work. His dad would like for him to begin reviewing for the SAT or ACT. He and I will work on that during our sessions."
"Tonight the student and I used his book to write his history presentation, did a review with drawings for his science exam, and worked to understand the mechanics of long division. This is a great improvement; he should do particularly well on his science exam."
