Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"We went over two labs- one on determining the Ka of acids and the other was a titration. We also reviewed all of the topics briefly for her upcoming midterm."
"We covered the same electricity and magnetism as the previous time. We solved the charged tape problem and then did a number of questions from her book to practice for test"
"The student had a worksheet on the Punnett squares for the varying inheritance patterns. We worked scenarios for each question and I explained each situation in detail."
"We covered Chapter 17: spontaneous/non-spontaneous reactions, standard entropy, change in entropy, laws of thermodynamics, Gibbs free energy, change in free energy (delta G), relating G/H/T/S, and relating thermo values with Q and K to predict which direction equilibrium will shift (which direction reaction is spontaneous)."
"Todays lesson consisted of a review of material pertaining to the student's online chemistry class. Topics covered mainly focused on acids and bases, including naming, classification, weak versus strong, and how to determine pH utilizing various mathematical equations and methodologies. The student expressed that her difficulties lie in recognition of how to solve certain problems at various times. I suggested performing practice problems daily to further reinforce her knowledge of how to approach individual problems and concepts. She has access to other chemistry resources in addition to tutoring that have led to improved understanding of the material."
"We worked on chemistry conversions from number of molecules to grams. We looked at how we can use Avogadro's number to find moles and then mole-to-mass conversion using molecular weight. We also looked at combustion analysis given grams of the mystery compound in the reactants and the grams of CO2 and H2O in the product of combustion. We looked at how once we find the empirical formula we can use the molecular weight of the unknown compound in order to find the molecular formula. I also provided a few extra worksheets to go over at the end of the session."
