Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"During our last session, we focused on the Math section as she has been showing the English section to be a real strength."
"Today we reviewed questions from the student's last practice test, especially writing MC. We reviewed a lesson on Reading Comp and Sentence Comp, the reviewed another lesson on the essay. I assigned another timed essay for homework."
"We began with the math mini-lessons. As I created fill-in-the-blank style worksheets with examples, the student worked through an entire unit of vocab exercises. I am happy to report that she did very well with the new vocabulary and mini-lessons. We then moved on to improving sentence questions for which there is progress. For next session, she must complete 3 sections from the books along with any worksheet I find applicable/appropriate."
"We worked on the no-calculator section of a second SAT practice test. I had the student complete the section without a timer so she could focus on solving the problems without being anxious about time. Her confidence with the SAT math section is really improving. We reviewed some problems with exponents, extra variables as coefficients, transforming graphs, and simplifying expressions with i. Next time, we will finish reviewing the free response questions and will move on to the calculator portion of the math section."
"We worked on the Reading and Writing portion of the SAT prep. The student has made huge gains in her instincts and abilities on this portion of the test. We decided that it would be good for her to work on the Reading and Writing material on her own and that we will continue working on the Math section together."
"We worked on the Reading section of a practice SAT. The student only made occasional mistakes; however, some of the mistakes were clearly incorrect. When I asked her to retry a problem requiring her to read a chart, she immediately recognized that the correct answer. In another instance, she bubbled the wrong letter. She came close on time, but didn't use any of the extra time to check answers. I recommended that she spend any extra time focused on checking answers, especially those that require very little time to work through, such as problems involving word definitions in context or other quick problems."
