Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"The student and I began by reviewing the math concepts we went over on Sunday. She was able to complete problems over averages and probability, and we reviewed using the triangle area formula. She completed a practice reading section and did a very good job. On reading comprehension, we discussed how to identify the main idea and use this to eliminate answers that don't relate to the purpose. Finally, I introduced the math section and several question types. She showed a good understanding of converting between percents, fractions, and decimals. We went over some estimation strategies, exponent rules, and percent increase/decrease problems. The student did great!"
"Administered diagnostic test and reviewed his selections and how he came about to obtain them. Determined the necessary areas of focus for the student are also math and verbal, required the student to take note of unfamiliar words and will test him next session."
"The student took the Mathematics Achievement section and, as he has been doing, almost tripled his score. This was actually his lowest scoring section on the pre test, mainly due to timing, and he ended up in the 70%s. He only left 5 answers blank at the end, and I could see him pacing throughout the Problem Solving section so that he did not lose time. The questions he got wrong were very minor errors, so his skill set is there. I'm very, very pleased to see how much he has improved. I will recommend that next weekend he take another full test."
"We worked on the 18-question SAT Math with calculator section. Most questions did not need a calculator at all. The student was excellent with arithmetic and algebra. We talked about very educated guessing and how leaving an answer blank is never an option. I emailed her English Critical Reading passages to work on. We will meet again next Sunday morning."
"We worked on the calculator math section today. We did a lot of questions about inequalities, which the student seemed a little rusty on, so I asked her to complete some inequality questions before our next session on Sunday."
"We worked on the concepts of vertical, complementary, and supplementary angles. We practiced applying these concepts to solve problems algebraically. We also covered chemistry homework problems, which involved reading short passages about carbonic acid in drinks and acid rain, followed by short answer questions."
