"We covered more divisions problems with remainders. We worked through 1 digit divisors by 2 and 3 digit dividends. Our goal is to work with 2 digit divisors and move into some exposure to long division and remainders as fractions. Our next goal is to work with word problems."
"The student and I prepared for his quiz tomorrow. This quiz will cover the conversion of units, rates of administration for pharmaceutical drugs, and concentration rates for MEQ (milliequivalents). He did a good job today and was able to understand the general idea as we went along. However, this particular subject topic is very similar to another in its general concepts. This is not a big concern, as he will perform well as long as he continues to practice and learns to differentiate between the two methods. He is more than prepared for his quiz tomorrow."
"Practiced dividing decimals in preparation for an upcoming test. She is good at dividing decimals by whole numbers at adding zeros to dividends to get decimal quotients. She is generally good at moving the decimal point to the right in both the dividend and divisor when the divisor is a decimal. In an attempt to get the student to be neater at showing her work, we did a few sets of problems where the problems were listed at the top of the page and she had to do the work at the bottoms."
"The student and I had a great session. We worked on his times tables for his upcoming quizzes and ERB practice problems. He was very strong with his times tables, struggling only slightly with 8s. By the end of the session he was able to complete all his times tables in under 45 seconds, 15 seconds faster than required on his tests. He also did an excellent job with his ERBs. We timed a few sections to get a feel for the real test, and he completed everything in half the time with almost 100% accuracy. The only mistakes he made were small oversights or because he misread the question - I encouraged him to go back through his work and look it over since he will likely have time at the end of his test!"
"Today we worked on the student's packet to prepare for his test on Wednesday. The packet included adding and subtracting fractions and mixed numbers, changing fractions to mixed numbers, changing mixed numbers to fractions, and word problems including fractions and mixed numbers. I had him explain to me whenever he made an error so he could see on his own what he was doing (versus me just telling him what mistake he made)."
"The student and I spent some time on least common multiples and changing denominators of fractions. She has a few some issues with that but altogether does pretty well. We also spent a lot of time learning about money and focusing on what coins make a dollar and how many of each we need, etc. I think she picked up on that pretty fast!"
