"She is a "see it and remember it" person. So I have her learning to identify various objects by their Spanish words in order to avoid doing a sort of Object=English word=Spanish word. Since she has some down time I want her to learn the alphabet in Spanish, but to break up the time by watching television programming (news, drama) in Spanish and also reading a Spanish language magazine. Her assignment is to see what she was able to "get" from those without using the dictionary a lot. She has some French in her skill set, so I showed her how to use that to figure out some Spanish words, too. All of it is Latin-based. She has some homework to keep her busy. She has a great, positive attitude. She will do fine; she has drive and the will to learn."
"We continued reviewing the preterit tense. We went over conjugations of regular -ar, -er, and -ir ending verbs, irregular verbs, stem-changing verbs, completely irregular verbs, and special verbs ending in -car, -gar, and -zar. We worked on two practice exercises using the correct conjugation of the verbs in parenthesis in the preterit tense. I introduced the imperfect tense. We will continue with the imperfect tense and preterit vs. imperfect tense next week. Additional practice is encouraged to help him remember into which category each verb falls (regular, irregular, stem-changing). I have sent him additional notes and two power point presentations so that he may continue studying the material covered these couple of weeks."
"The student and I had a very productive session. He is very attentive and focused and therefore we can be efficient while teaching and learning. In this session, he completed his Spanish homework and we worked on his listening skills. We also worked on his summaries of the Odyssey books in preparation for a quiz. These quizzes have been challenging for him and other classmates so we spent significant time preparing for the upcoming one. I made sure that he understood the nuance of the words in the Odyssey that will help him gain a deeper understanding of the story. Later, we also reviewed for his upcoming math examination, and he is understanding the concept of factoring very well."
