Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"The student and I reviewed her last trigonometry quiz and then discussed her research paper. She incorporated the peer review from in-class and then other edits she had already made, along with adding more smoother transitions."
"Today the student and I worked on a compare/contrast response in regards to the assigned works. We talked about how each artist differs in their approach to art, their motivation, and their relationship with their audience. The student felt confident in regards to his understanding of the material and continues to gain confidence as a writer. We also spent time discussing his upcoming Chemistry IA assessment and how to draft his lab report, as well as brainstormed some experiment design ideas."
"This session began with the great news that the student had received a 100% for an assignment she had completed. This is a reflection of her hard work. Today we focused on difficult poems and passages that were heavy with imagery. She and I worked on identifying tools that could be used to determine an author's meaning in such passages and poems. These tools include looking up words in the dictionary, using context to understand what the author means, and, when reading about unfamiliar illustrations of objects or activities, using YouTube as a resource. Using these tools, she was able to work through the passages to identify themes, ideas, and diction/idioms. She continues to show she is driven to succeed."
"We continued working on the student's final Spanish project - a children's manual on how to make ice cream. We completed the text for the manual, copy edited the text and underlined all of the class vocabulary used, as requested by the teacher. I also edited his text for the oral presentation that he has to give about the manual. All he has left to do is add pictures to the story and the assignment will be completed."
"We covered self-evaluation for reading and writing. The student was struggling most with thinking of specific examples. The student was very positive. I included strategies for finding evidence to support the reflection and ways to reflect. Practice to draft reflection."
"After the first student and I discussed her GRE study program, the second student and I worked on an English assignment. We primarily discussed what constitutes a reliable source and how to find them. He had a great attitude and (I think) learned a great deal. Good job today!"
