Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"This session was dedicated to reviewing for the AP chemistry test the student will be taking. After discussing periodic trends and elemental notation, we tackled chemical nomenclature. He showed the ability to name ionic and covalently bonded molecules. I spent the majority of the session going over the major polyatomic ions that will show up on the test and how to name molecules that include them. I gave him a test in which he needed to name molecules that involved all of the types of nomenclature we had covered. He appeared to be making great strides, but I encouraged him to work on his speed when naming molecules. I told him I would provide a quiz for him to take the next time we met. I left him with a polyatomic "cheat sheet" to study. We also will be discussing colligative properties and electrochemistry during the next session."
"The student and I went over aromatic systems. We first went over properties of aromatic rings, including stability and pi bond orientation, and then went into molecular orbital theory, including bonding and antibonding orbitals. We then went into Huckel's Rule and aromatic ions. We ended with benzene derivative nomenclature. Overall, the student seemed to understand the material very well."
"Electro-Magnetic waves. EM spectrum. Speed of light in a vacuum and through various media. Frequency and wavelength calculations."
