Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"The student and I worked on her current assignment for Macbeth - argue for or against including a scene her classmates wrote in the original play. She wanted to argue against, so we talked through her claims and came up with a structure for her discussion. We also talked in depth about the witches, and their role within the play. I would like to see her immerse herself in the material a little more. Finding something interesting in the material will make her care more about it, which will make it much easier to remember and to think critically about. We talked about the importance of layering when studying, rather than cramming."
"The student and I spent the session finishing her history term paper. We continued fixing the edits her teacher had in her rough draft. When all of these were completed, we went through the document for a final edit."
"I guided the student on how to put the finishing touches on his 750 word minimum wage essay. He initially struggled with finding more to write about, but after searching for a few more articles online, he was able to use that information to formulate some counter claims to the main points of his essay. Since English is currently his lowest grade, he has been very focused and determined on getting these large assignments completed."
"Today, the student and I worked on character descriptions for the book on which we are writing a book report. He had some difficulty writing and identifying the characters but got the hang of it toward the end of the session. We will work more on this. I left him with an assignment to read the next 2 chapters by our next meeting. He demonstrated an excellent attitude toward the work."
"Today, the student and I worked on reading, writing, and math. She is very strong in math and took to the concepts quite quickly. Like her sister, she was able to sound out words well when reading -- I think that she also needs to do more of this kind of practice to improve her speed."
"Today, the student and I worked on respiratory system process. We focused on the process of oxygen flowing into the body, and carbon dioxide flowing out. She was very eager and energetic. I used visuals and kinesthetic demonstrations to help her comprehend completely."
