Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"We spent this session reviewing for the student's math test on Tuesday. She is very strong with the pure mathematical operation of evaluating proportions and is getting very good at identifying what word questions are saying and setting up the appropriate equations."
"Exam review. We reviewed multi-variable basics, vector calculus and optimization, linear algebra and systems of equations. I ended by making a long list of possible question topics. The student should be ready for the exam."
"During this session, we reviewed area and circumference of circles and finding volumes of rectangular prisms and pyramids. She did much better this session than when we talked about it last time. She answered most questions quickly and correctly, and she better understood the formulas and how to use them. I was very encouraged by this session and thought she did very well."
"The student and I worked on determining the "n"th term in geometric sequences yesterday. I helped him to identify what the terms in the equation meant and showed him a good way to keep track of all the different variables he knew, and the variable he was trying to solve for. Sometimes he likes to get ahead of himself and misreads information, so I thought this would be a great way to slow him down and give him a way to check to make sure he got everything. He has a seemingly easy time plugging into formulas, it's usually just a matter of getting to that point of plug and chug. The student told me that they had a pretest today and will have the regular test on Friday, and he felt that with the extra review on the pretest that he would do well. He also informed me that he did decently on his physics exam."
"The student is a very enjoyable and polite young lady! We reviewed what work she had with her from December through February. Many topics she understands well. Her last topic, bivariate data problems, was covered quickly, so we are going over how to complete percentages. I will try to instill more math confidence in her as well!"
"The student and I reviewed much of the material she's working on in preparation for her exam this week. Specifically, natural log/ exponents/ logarithmic equations/ graphs are the topics, so we calculated many of her assigned problems. She does fairly well with her calculations, but sometimes she hesitates to log both sides or perform a similar function. Some more work is needed to shore up her understanding of logarithms so that she can perform these calcs as effortlessly as she does exponential equations/ expressions. She does know how to isolate a variable (solve for it), but she occasionally gets overwhelmed by the complexity of some occasions. Nevertheless, she has a lot of energy - even interest perhaps? - for doing this math, and I'm confident she will continue to make strides."
