Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"In this session we worked through a series of problems on the areas of polygons. While the formulas are not hard to apply, it is the use of the special triangles that can lead to difficulties when solving these types of problems. The student seem to remember well the rules and was able to follow on these problems with very little difficulty."
"the student focused on writing equations to solve word problems, specifically geared toward SAT preparation. The student is excellent at remaining persistent through challenging problems, especially those that involve factoring and solving quadratic equations and other Algebra concepts that seem to appear throughout Geometry assignments. The student is beginning to see how older math topics tie into current ones. He also did an excellent job finding the geometric probability that a random point lands in the shaded region of a shape made up of polygons and circles. The student is going to practice more questions from his SAT prep book during the week and we will review them together, addressing any questions or confusions he has. Great work!"
"In this session, we discussed the importance of understanding the properties and theorems associated with each type of shape in order to get the information necessary to create a proof. We went over the Triangle Congruency Theorems and the student completed several proofs."
"We worked on transformations-translation, rotation and reflection. We also worked on how to apply these transformations on a coordinate grid, identify the transformations and write the rules for the transformations. We also worked on angles formed by parallel lines and transversals."
"The student had proofs to do today so she worked on homework problems and proofs. We will meet on Monday to review material for her test on Tuesday."
"We began our session with a little "getting-acquainted" activity. This allowed us to get to know each other before starting work. The topics we discussed and practiced were: distance formula, midpoint formula, and Pythagorean theorem. She seems to understands these concepts well, but she does need to memorize these formulas. She mentioned being able to memorize through song. I will tap into some of my resources to see what I can find and then I will forward them on to her."
