"Tonight, the student and I went over an assignment from her English class. She brought along the rubric as well as the articles so she could better complete this assignment. She had to write an argumentative essay either for or against employers checking the social media of their potential employees. She was on the fence in the beginning as to which side she believed in and could defend. She ended up choosing that it was not ethical for employers to use social media. She finished a rough draft of the entire paper, and all she had to do was type it up and fix some areas she wanted to re-think. It was a very successful evening!"
"The student continued to work on his paper for English Comp. He had to create an introduction and thesis for his paper on race. He is really improving his reading comprehension and confidence. We read Tell-Tale Heart and analyzed the different parts of the story. His understanding of the elements has really caught on."
"The student had an essay assignment due on Monday that we discussed. The assignment was to write a one-page essay with quotations and analysis. She began by figuring out a thesis statement. I encouraged her to begin by explaining what she wanted to write about by saying it then by writing down notes, before she begins to create an actual thesis statement. From there, she found quotes that she wanted to use and wrote an analysis. I helped her with her concluding and introductory statements, and I edited for grammar/spelling. As a side note, she was as receptive and attentive as she has been in all of our previous sessions."
