Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"The student and I took a long session this week to go over regular expressions and their applications. He now understands what a regular expression does and can construct them himself to solve specific problems. We then looked at how to apply regular expressions to a project he is working on. He has successfully integrated a powerful regular expression into his program and is going to fine tune it as he wraps up the project."
"We covered problems on his latest two homework sets -- Newton's laws, energy, power, energy conservation, and similar topics."
"We finished the unit 1 exam and continued onto the next unit on proofs. We reviewed deductive/inductive reasoning, counterexamples, and finished the first part of the two-column proof assignment. I asked him to try to review the different types of reasons that can be used for proofs and to try the second portion of the assignment. We will review the assignment and finish the following quizzes next session."
"The student and I talked about different programming languages, computer science, etc. We found a website with the class syllabus and lecture notes. We went through that briefly and talked about installing the BlueJ IDE after doing the upgrade to Windows 10 in preparation for the next session. We can work off the website material to learn the material the class will cover and to start learning Java."
"We reviewed probability, rates, and inequalities. The student gained strength on rates (distance, time, rate, velocity), and the student's confidence is slowly increasing. The student will continue to practice and will review questions that the student has difficulties with. We had challenges on understanding probability. We will regroup tomorrow to review better and simpler techniques."
"We tried one tough RC on the debt crisis, and the student did exceptionally well overall. We'll cover more about modifiers, and that should eliminate many of her SC errors. I dished out some brutal word problems, but she took them heartily and put out good effort."
