Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"Concepts covered today included reading comprehension, author's purpose, and main idea. Today, we also worked with measurement, working with inches. We began going over x6 facts. He did a nice job today on his practice work."
"During this session, we reviewed order of operations. This entailed a brief video and online practice. The student's accuracy improved as she computed more problems. Because the problems were timed, she had to use mental math rather than count on her fingers. She answered 88% of the problems correctly. She also completed the long division unit. She computed with 100% accuracy, and she interpreted each problem correctly."
"During today's session, the student and I worked on multiplication. We began the session with some review for repeating addition. She did well with this activity. We then moved onto 2 by 2 multiplication problems. We then moved onto multiplication with 10's. This was easy for her because she knows her basic facts. We also worked on multiplication problems below 20. For the next session, we will continue to work on multiplication."
"Each session, we begin with a timed test to build the student's fact fluency. Before each test, I teach him a new addition strategy to practice while he works. The focus of the rest of the session was on addition and subtraction with regrouping and solving word problems. He worked really hard at each of the activities and seemed to enjoy the games with the dice that we played. We will continue to practice addition and subtraction in each session, but next session's focus will be on measurement."
"Everything went well. I ordered novels we can read together based on the kids' choices. We did a spelling/vocabulary inventory, and both children seem to be at the expected level for their age. I will do subtests next time to find the exact level. We did some place value riddle exercises, and they loved the jokes! We did a short creative thinking writing prompt that only demanded that they write a few sentences, but it really was a good indicator for me. Student 1's writing is detailed and pretty advanced. I have plans to finish the spelling inventory, play a place value game, and continue with writing creatively in short prompts (only a couple of sentences)."
"Excellent session. The student understands the concept of subtraction, specifically the breaking of 10's into 1's. We are currently working on subtracting quickly by making number sentences with a multiple of 10. We will continue practicing quick subtraction in our next session."
