Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"Today we covered solving systems of equations by substitution. She just started this concept in class and told me she felt it was difficult. When we started I noticed that she was able to show her steps neatly and get the correct answer. She had a positive attitude. She just began this unit in class so I felt like she did very well for a new topic. We will continue to go over this at our next session and add on any other new information she learns in class. We worked on two of her class assignments."
"- The student and I worked on solving linear functions. - Specifically, we worked on isolating variables and checking our work by plugging in our answers to the original function to ensure it always holds true. - The student did well with all of the material."
"This session went well for us. We did a lesson on noun recognition. The student now has a better understanding of what nouns are. He is also able to distinguish and recognize different kinds of nouns."
"The student and I continued to review the material for Unit 7 during this session. Prior to meeting, she was very frustrated with this material, although she did very well on her first quiz try. She expressed better understanding of the material after we reviewed it, and she received a 100% on the quiz after our session."
"We covered APA formatting and style. I edited the student's paper for subject-verb agreement and sentence-level issues. I sent her a version of the paper with changes made after she went through and approved each suggestion."
"The student and I had a great session, we were able to catch up on all of his history work. We completed his research paper outline as well as a quiz and reading assignment. We reviewed all of his English assignments and look at the upcoming science lab."
"The student and I completed his outline for his biology project and completed history homework. We also discussed how to frame problems in a positive can-do attitude so that one has the motivation to complete the study plan."
"For our first session, we figured out what topics the student and I will cover in our sessions. She is doing a homeschooling English program that is very rigorous, with emphasis on grammar and sentence structure, including sentence diagrams. We reviewed parts of speech and basic parts of the sentence, and she did some diagramming with my guidance. She's working on correct pronoun usage, which we also reviewed. She is also working on different modes of writing (narrative, expository, descriptive, and persuasive). She is working on a persuasive essay for next week on a book that she read. We reviewed some basic topics for essay structure (introduction including thesis, body paragraphs, what to include in a conclusion) and she will write a draft of her paper for next week so that I can review. She was courteous and energetic and I look forward to working with her!"
"This was our first session and we worked on a few topics he has already learned in school. Among some of them are: present tense regular verbs, present tense irregular verbs, future tense, expressions with tener, and a few vocabulary words. I have shown the student how to structure and use these verb themes. The most challenging part of learning a language is memorization, which is what the student is currently working on for homework."
"This was a good session. We reviewed the steps of mitosis and meiosis. We reviewed relevant genetic vocab, histone proteins, homologous chromosomes, sister chromatids, crossing over, zygote, gametes, prokaryotic and eukaryotic chromosomes. We finished by looking at chromosomal disorders of trisomy 21 and trisomy 23."
"Today we worked on multi step word problems. We are reviewing concepts that the student is weak on to review for the test. The student also received a 96 on her last unit test over money. Today's session went very well."
"I assigned an entire exam for her to complete before our session today. We went through the exam and the questions she got wrong. She is doing really well on English and reading. We are now focusing more on the science and math section, especially on math. I am teaching her a lot of calculator tricks to succeed on the math section."
