Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"The student and I continued reviewing functions and equations in three dimensional space, graphing equations in 3-d space, areas where a graph is defined or undefined, level surface g(x,y,z), family of surfaces, single surface, limits and continuity."
"The student and I continued working on simplifying radical expressions, which included multiplying fractions with radicals by different forms of one. She has the mechanics of this down well, and we'll be moving on to the section quiz soon."
"We continued going through the student's review. We went through imaginary numbers. We have identified logarithms as an area we need to review. I also gave him some practice problems to do. He solved most of them."
"The student and I met today to go over some more of the material that he will need to know for the College Algebra class he is taking in the Fall. I found a site for his college that is specifically for his Math class and pulled a practice for the first test, which includes most of the things that he will need to be able to understand when the semester starts. We went over several different concepts and he is able to work through most but one minor issue he has is just forgetting a sign or writing a number down wrong, which gives him the wrong answer ultimately. My advice was to go back over and make sure to slow down when doing the problem. I will send material for him to peruse before our next session."
"This week the student and I worked on the homework he received in summer school which turned out to be simple multiplication. I ensured that he completed as many questions as possible in our one hour session because I wanted to make sure that he could reflexively answer those types of questions. His progress remains steady and headed in a positive direction."
"We just did final review for 2 hours. We went over limits, optimization problems, area between curves, and substitution rule. The student was ready to work and we got through a lot in a short period of time. I gave her test taking tips and told her to stay confident and she would do very well on her test."
"I met the student for the first time. We went over his multiplication table from 1 to 12. He did very well on the multiplications of 2, 3, 5, 6, 10, 11 and 12. I then had him practice 6, 7 & 9 while showing him patterns in the numbers to help remember them. I also showed him patterns for 3 so that he could do that table more quickly too. While placing a foundation in his basic arithmetic, his mom pointed out that he had difficulty last semester doing "Algebra". So, I will also focus on projecting toward algebra skills. For the next session, I plan to quickly check his recall from this session, then push into division and fractions."
"Today we covered 3x3 matrices. We learned how to take the determinant of a 3x3 matrix. We also went over tricks to solve 3 variable systems the normal way and with augmented matrices. We then discussed graphing quadratic equations, completing the square, and imaginary numbers. Next week, we will finish quadratic equations (Chapter 5) and complete Chapter 6 which is exponents, exponential functions, and log."
"Went over exponent/radical properties, solving quadratic inequalities, and angles formed by chords/secants/tangents. The student is already exceptional in all subjects and needed little assistance throughout the session. I assigned a practice problem set for him to complete."
"We reviewed Algebra and went over distance-rate-time problems, identifying non linear function types, systems of equations, complex fractions, and graphing linear functions. The student improved with solving systems as well as graphing."
"We covered similar polygons, how to determine the constant of proportionality, how to solve simple algebraic equations, how perimeter and area change depending on the proportionality constant, and dilation."
"I worked with the student on some math and reading workbooks so that I could see how she is doing in these subjects. The student needs some guidance while completing math problems, but catches on to explanations very quickly. She is very good with reading comprehension. I will be giving her a practice test to see what skills she needs extra help in, so I can tailor our tutoring to this."
