Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"Today was mostly an orientation session. I got to see what assignments she had to complete. We went over a video together, and I taught her how to take notes. We came up with a plan of what we would do for each week. She is very smart and catches onto things very quickly."
"Today served as my first session with the student. She is an extremely intelligent girl. In today's session, we focused on the basic fundamentals of writing and we went over the process of how to write effectively. She learned how to properly utilize an outline and at the end of our session, she was feeling much better about writing her weekly essays for her AP History class."
"The student and I specifically worked on his writing style, focusing mostly on passive voice and the use of commas for now. The student was receptive to learning about passive voice and how to restructure his sentences."
"We talked about "self-talk" and about the fact that the student should do well on a test because he does what he needs to do to get good grades. We talked about how he needs to use the skills he developed (double-checking answers, rereading to be sure, etc.), and he will do well on the test. We did some math together that he didn't understand from school (he did after we did a couple), and then we worked on a new 7th-grade practice math test. All in all, it was a very productive session."
"We took turns reading aloud from a chapter in a fiction book. I asked the student comprehension questions about what was read after every two or three sentences. I also discussed definitions of new and/or difficult vocabulary words. He then wrote a Thanksgiving story. I reminded him to include adjectives, correct spelling, and capitalization."
"We went over the student's spelling words and sentences again, and he had few to no errors. We tested him on his timed math. He was initially having a difficult time with the subtraction portion of the math. We did the testing multiple times until we got him to under 2 minutes."
