Tutoring review by Ishita in Towson, MD
Gigantic packet of logarithmic expressions and using them. His teacher apparently has not really taught them how to do things like add and subtract logs with common bases, or when using the A=Pe^rt equation, what each of those letters stands for. I was able to explain it all to him, and he gets it a lot better now.

We spent the session doing practice problems for the math section. The math is what seems to be giving her the most difficulty, so our goal is to increase her speed on the easy math problems so that she has more time to spend on the harder problems.

Tutoring review by Paul in Towson, MD
Re-introduction to the SAT (it has been over a month since our initial lesson). We then spent some time looking through the math packet the student had been assigned over the summer, consisting over algebra (including quadratics, factoring, FOIL, slope-intercept form, graphing, and function notation). She seems to have a good grasp on these concepts. I gave her a short lesson on factoring, function notation, and graph transformations - things she hasn't mastered yet. We then looked at an SAT math section. With the exception of a problem on remainders, she breezed through the easy and most medium difficulty questions, and was almost able to do one of the 4 hardest questions on her own. This is a great sign. As she progresses through advanced algebra in school this year, she should start to be able to simultaneously master the hardest SAT questions as well. Assigned 2 sections as homework: Reading and Math. We will discuss Writing and the grammar checklist next lesson.
