Session Summaries by French Tutors

French Tutoring review by Sophie Paulette in Shoreline, WA
I reviewed with the student the homework she did about conjugations and the negative sentence formations. She did well with conjugations. She did less well on negative sentences because she forgot to put in the verbs. I pointed out her mistake and how "ne" and "pas" need to frame the verbs. I then taught her about indefinite articles, and we reviewed the difference between definite and indefinite articles. We also did a lot of conversation practice, both spontaneous and from the textbook. We finished the lesson with some drawing and labeling of typical French things. I gave her homework to review the topics we'd seen.

French Tutoring review by Audrey in Shoreline, WA
In this session with the student, we checked all the points she had to review for her final test in 2 weeks. After that, we reviewed some of the structures and vocabulary she had to know for her test, such as the name of family members and verbs ending in "ER." To practice the family members, I gave her sentences she had to complete. To practice the verbs ending in "ER," I told her the verb in English, and she had to find the translation in French, write it, and conjugate the verb in the present tense. Since we will not see each other so much before her test, we are focusing on it, and I will prepare some worksheets for her to practice a lot.

French Tutoring review by Lin in Shoreline, WA
The student and I began our time with a review of all food vocabulary from the current chapter. We then introduced and practiced with conversational expressions related to asking for and giving advice. We worked with additional vocabulary used when discussing buying gifts for others, and expressions used to congratulate other, wish them Merry Christmas/Happy Hanukkah, wish them safe travels, etc. We spent time working with a new grammatical concept: using the object pronouns "lui" and "leur." She did great with this! We spent our remaining time reviewing the verbs vouloir (to want/wish), pouvoir (to be able to), as well as French partitive articles. She shared with me that on her most recent French test, she received a 95% on one part, and 100% on the other!

French Tutoring review by Alexander in Shoreline, WA
The student and I covered the er, ir, and re verbs, as well as vocabulary from his textbook. Dictation with accents is something he should practice before the exam. I included some helpful methods to memorize vocabulary. I gave him a worksheet to practice for the next time. I can see he is taking good notes at our sessions, and is able to recall many things we covered in class.

French Tutoring review by Mandy in Shoreline, WA
The student and I focused on conjugating -er verbs today and reviewed some common verbs. I had her listen to me sound out words and try to see if she could spell the words by herself using patterns she knew. I'm very impressed with her progress!

French Tutoring review by Alexandra in Shoreline, WA
The student and I reviewed material to prepare for her French final, specifically introducing herself, describing people, short dialogues, writing a short paragraph, adjectives, and translating from French to English and English to French. We also conjugated some irregular verbs, and discussed the differences between these, among other things that we covered in the session. I wrote down some topics that she feels she needs particular help with, which we will cover next week.
