French Tutoring review by Olivia in Cedar Park, TX
The student and I worked on the work from his math class today and his homework. In class, they were reviewing the quadratic formula and how to graph equations. For homework, the student had a set of word problems using these skills which we mostly completed during the session.

French Tutoring review by Mary Lee in Cedar Park, TX
The student really surprised me today. I brought over some high interest books form the library, today, and he took to one of the books. We read some of this book aloud, and will definitely be working with it again, soon.  I read a story to The student and asked him to "map" it for homework. He was very good at remembering the plot which had a clever twist at the end.

Today we covered implicit differentiation, the chain rule, and some of the other aspects of chapter eleven in the student's textbook.  The student made some progress in his understanding of the material, but he stills needs to practice putting the rules and concepts into action in each particular problem.

French Tutoring review by Peter in Cedar Park, TX
Today we spent the first hour working on an SAT Essay.  It was the student's first time writing on her own without my assistance with planning and she did a nice job.   She believes she spent too much time planning because she only got three paragraphs without a conclusion.  Next time we're going to have to work on her ability to monitor her progress more carefully. The second hour we spent developing the first college acceptance essay that the student has to write this fall.

French Tutoring review by Jeremy in Cedar Park, TX
Our session today was similar in structure to yesterday's session although far more productive. Starting where we left off on Tuesday, we continued reviewing all the content for the upcoming final by having the student verbally answer questions from his old tests. Again, where it was clear that there was a gap in his knowledge, we would set the test aside, and I would try to teach the necessary information as efficiently as possible. Doing this, we were able to cover the remainder of chapters 1 and 2 as well as chapter 3, chapter 4, and chapter 6. He seemed strong on chapter 4, and although he had a few stumbles, his good understanding of photosynthesis shined through in our review of chapter 6. The student could use a bit more work on understanding the basic macromolecules of biology as well as certain basic underlying concepts of chemistry. Overall, this was a very good session.

Today we talked about French sounds and went over the alphabet. We also covered numbers one to twenty and some useful expressions and vocabulary such as "hello," "goodbye," "how are you," etc. We also went over some useful cultural knowledge and touched on issues of politeness, formality v. Informality in speech, and grammatical gender.
