Session Summaries by French Tutors

French Tutoring review by Melissa in Akron, OH
We practiced the student's verbs again. I added quite a few to her flashcard collection, and she did a really good job. I'll send her a list of conjugations for DRMRSVANDERTRAMP verbs. She also asked me to send her some reading to practice. We read a few short passages so she could practice her numbers more. After I quizzed her on days of the week, months, and numbers, it was obvious that she is still struggling with numbers. I'll find some more reading for her with a lot of numbers involved to force some more practice.

French Tutoring review by Ed in Akron, OH
We did a review of what the student has studied so far this year in her French class to help her prepare for a comprehensive exam she will be having tomorrow. Prior to the session, she had submitted to me several examples or previous quizzes, tests, and homework that she had completed for her class this year, and I reviewed these materials prior to the session to look for topics that we might focus on during our session. I also asked the student to refer to the materials to point to any specific areas that she might want to review. We covered such topics as French direct and indirect object pronouns, the conjugations of some irregular and semi-irregular French verbs, and a few matters of French vocabulary.

French Tutoring review by Katherine in Akron, OH
I quizzed the student on the verb conjugations that he learned yesterday as well as the pronouns (direct object and indirect object) that we started reviewing. We proceeded to work on adjective placement and agreement and the difference between adjectives and adverbs. I showed him the adverbs that he needed to know and asked him to work on memorizing these as well as the chapter vocabulary lists from the work that was covered this semester. We also reviewed some of his tests and quizzes, so we could work on any weaknesses in these areas.

French Tutoring review by Kate in Akron, OH
The student resumed her second semester last week, and her French course is a continuation of last semester's course. Her current vocabulary set deals with medicine and the doctor. The related grammar lesson is the imperative tense, for which she has a worksheet to complete. Together, we worked through it. After the worksheet, we moved on to a more conversational lesson. Using her vocabulary, I asked her to translate short phrases using the imperative. This activity helped her to understand when the imperative is necessary, and she did very well. As a note, she scored a 90% on her final exam from last semester, so I'm very proud!

French Tutoring review by Mary in Akron, OH
Today, the student told me that she was studying direct and indirect object pronouns. We looked at the chapter on this subject in her textbook and went over several exercises. I asked her to copy down a few rules to remember and then gave a quick quiz on them; then, we worked on some more exercises. She caught on quickly and was doing the exercises well. We also looked at some similar questions she had for homework. Afterward, I showed her a French video series that is very interactive, and she listened to/ participated in one video. She had to put various concepts together to construct French sentences and speak them out loud. It was good practice for her accent and for thinking creatively, and she was doing well.

French Tutoring review by Allen in Akron, OH
For this session we used TV5.com A1-level exercises as our primary focus. First we studied and practiced the vocabulary of professions as related to introductions. This section consists of a video and five exercises. We also discussed the student's study plans for the coming week. He estimates he will be able to devote an hour to an hour and a half on French this week above his other study requirements.
