Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"The student and I did very well today! She initially had a few questions with math and struggled to maintain attentiveness, but she quickly settled down and got to work. We also got to study for a prep test and she did very well. She actually had a lot of fun practicing probability. I'm sure she will continue to practice for fun outside of our sessions."
"The student and I worked through sections 5.1 and 5.3 today. These are longer, more complex sections that will require a lot of practice for her to fully understand the process of completing the problems. I strongly recommend she do extra work from the book on these problems."
"Reviewed second old exam and associate topics: Millennium Eco Assessment, ecosystem services, loss of biodiversity, PM emissions, Dose-response curves (toxicology), adiabatic expansion and its relationship to weather patterns, solar radiation, criteria pollutants."
"Student 1 learned the order of operations and completed a worksheet on it. Student 2 learned the midpoint formula and the distance formula. Then we went over some of the worksheets she needs to complete for the Geometry packet. She will work on these for homework."
"The student and I reviewed the reading section, using the strategy of looking at the questions first and then going back to the passage. He was able to get most of the questions right, and within the time frame. We then talked about the writing section. We walked through one essay prompt and I modeled how to organize his thoughts and notes to write the essay. He then wrote one himself."
"We continued to review for the second half of the test on Thursday. We focused on story problems. The teacher is also giving the kids the opportunity to correct the problems they attempted on Wednesday. The student remembered a couple of them, and we reviewed the right way to approach them. "
"The student and I reviewed for his chapter test. We went through the review in the book and worked out all the problems together for a second time. I let him work them out on his own and reinforced when needed. His skills have come very far since when we began this year. His focus still needs work but we are working on it."
"The student and I worked with several topics during this session. We refreshed his memory on tariffs very quickly and went over some practice problems about subsidies and tariffs. We also talked about "dumping." A topic I was not all that familiar with before, but was able to explain to him after looking at some graphs and a few definitions."
"The student and I continued work on fractions and basic multiplication. His ability to recall his multiplication tables and use them in adding and reducing fractions is improving rapidly. We reviewed his vocabulary words and continued to add more. The student continues to struggle with reading comprehension, so I have continued to encourage him to read small amounts at a time and to annotate as he reads."
"We first reviewed some vocabulary words, which she did very well on, and then reviewed her word roots list and strategies. After that, we worked on an entire practice math section (25 questions), focusing on fractions, decimals, and long division. I also added strategies as we went through the problems."
"Reviewed a short story the student had to read for class. We translated the story, piece-by-piece, to reinforce comprehension. We reviewed the story through conversational Spanish, and practiced some common verb constructions."
"Continued working with The student on the vocabulary words by reviewing definitions and creating sentences out of analogies. I also had her practice making analogies so that she could understand their structure better."
