How can a Elementary Math tutor help you?

Educators constantly try to convince students that math can be fun. The Common Core Math Standards and the Massachusetts Comprehensive Assessment System require your child to demonstrate math proficiency at each grade level. Even in elementary school, math can be challenging. You may find your child faltering with word problems, multiplication, probability, or graphing points. Varsity Tutors has a solution. Our educational directors can help you locate an independent tutor in Framingham, MA, for your child, who is skilled at helping students prepare for elementary math. One-on-one instruction affords the option of teaching math concepts on your child's level, using alternative teaching methods and targeted instruction.

Your child's tutor will focus on the exact topics of concern. As an experienced math teacher, they can identify your student's learning style and the most relevant materials and tools for understanding each concept. Doing so saves a great deal of time. The study plan is adaptable as well. Your student's tutor will assess their progress, even after establishing a baseline, so it's possible to hone your child's proficiency in operations and algebraic thinking, or order of operations, for example.

In this session, we focused on adding fractions with same denominators. The student was able to do this easily, so we quickly moved on to adding unit fractions together with denominators of 9 or less. She was able to do this pretty well, but at times had trouble figuring out what the least common denominator was for each set of fractions. For this, the second half of the session focused on identifying the least common denominator for a pair of fractions and working on quick tips and ways to find the least common denominator.

Today's session was very productive and fun for the student. After completing her homework, we practiced her multiplication facts. I placed 30 flashcards on the table and had her do 2-minute drills to answer the problems. The flashcards were randomly placed. At first, she was a little slow at answering the questions, but after two rounds, she was able to answer all thirty facts in a minute and a half. She was very interested in the game, and did exceptionally well. We will continue with the practicing, and I will try to get her to answer the questions in under a minute.
