Framingham, MA Chemistry tutoring
We continued exploring acids and bases and their reactivity with each other and in aqueous solutions. This topic can be very broad and at times hard to understand so we first talked about what acids and bases are and their numerous definitions as defined by chemists over the years. I explained to her what the term strong and weak acids were and how they behaved and we also were about to review a little bit of nomenclature. I left her with a couple of tasks before we ended out tutoring session.

The end of the session involved a pre-lab question sheet and practice balancing equations and a few homework questions. Excellent session.

The student is making good progress with respect to molecular geometry and polarity. We've resolved to do a little cumulative review at the beginning of each session in the hopes that it will help him to retain information better. I've encouraged him to drop me a line if he has questions about material that will be tested before we meet again, since we meet only once per week.

As the student has a chemistry test coming up on Friday, we spent the session reviewing the material we've previously covered on types of chemical reactions, the mole concept, molar mass and molarity, stoichiometry, and limiting reagents. We also reviewed the more recent material on acids and bases, including the pH scale, and calculation of pH and pOH. In addition, we prepared a review sheet, as his teacher allows them to take notes and bring those in for the test. I was very pleased to note that he seemed to have a good recollection of both older and more recent topics, and seemed confident about the test itself. I look forward to hearing how it went!
