Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"Student completed a critical thinking exercise for world cultures, a discussion assignment for her freshman seminar, an essay on diction, and a lesson on choosing and visiting doctors for health class."
"We went over the student's social studies assignment to write a thesis for 3 factors that contributed to the rise and fall of a civilization. We chose Rome and bookmarked websites to use as sources. She wrote down notes for three factors from her textbook and from one of the sites. We also went over multiplication of binomials. The session went very well."
"For math, we worked on a homework assignment on parallel and perpendicular lines. The student did well on his last math quiz, and understands the basic concepts. We worked through a packet for science on pressure, fluids, and gases. We made a study sheet for him to work on before the next test. Finally we worked on writing an introductory paragraph for his research paper."
"We worked on math and science homework. She is doing very well with square roots. We also studied for her vocab quiz. She knows 12/15 words without hesitation. Hopefully, she does well on the quiz. She also was able to demonstrate that she understood the first 2 chapters of her book report book, so she will be able to continue reading it. She was finishing her social studies map when I left."
"Tonight, we went over the reading and writing portion of the PSAT. We specifically focused on parallel structure agreement, appositive phrases, and verb tense agreement. The student seems to do much better in the reading portion of the PSAT. She uses in-context clues to identify words and derive to proper interpretation of the passage. I am working on a complete study plan for her as I keep understanding her struggles and wins this week. She always demonstrates a great attitude towards learning and works steadily to improve her score/understanding."
"We covered solving basic equations with one unknown variable. The student needed some help with the concept, but picked it up quickly and was able to solve problems with no help. We proceeded to recap the concepts of circumference and area of a circle. He was able to recall the formulas and solve problems correctly with minimal help. I recapped the concept of the Pythagorean theorem, which he required some help with. We solved some more problems on the Pythagorean theorem, which he had some difficulty with, but has improved since I first taught him the concept. Overall he has really improved with his math understanding and skills. Our weekly sessions are helping him learn concepts and will help him when he starts geometry in school in a couple of days."
