Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"I focused today's session on preparing for the student's quiz tomorrow. The quiz will be openbook, but she still needs to be more comfortable with the terms and formulas covered on the exam. The professor suggested that students use an online practice test, so she and I did this practice test together, working through the problems and pausing to review material she did not understand."
"We focused this week primarily on her homework and studying for her upcoming final. She seems to be in a much stronger place. I think she is making progress through the material and is doing well on all of her graded assignments. We will meet twice this week so that we can study more for her midterm."
"Normal Curves, standard deviations, averages and Zscores (from her homework, in preparation for next week's quiz). We also reviewed the ACT Math test and worked through several problems in her practice test book. We talked about taking untimed ACT tests for the next couple weeks, beginning timed practice on sections later, and completing fulllength timed ACT tests a couple times in the weeks just prior to the test date."
"We covered the latest homework for chapter 3. Most of this was linear regression, correlation, scatter plot creation, slope determination and evaluation of the association between variable pairs. The student seems to be getting better at understanding linear regression and this practice certainly has helped. She has a quiz on Friday and an end of chapter test on Tuesday or Weds of next week. I've given her some practice problems on a worksheet I created and scheduled the next session for Sunday at 4:00 pm."
"We reviewed normal distribution and utilized the normal distribution curve to find percentiles based on the zscore value. In addition, we practiced problems that compared different mean and standard deviation to devise which z score had a higher percent or effectiveness."
"The student and I covered functions, domains, ranges, and numeric sequences. He was left with several practice problems for him to better understand the material. He and I will meet again on Thursday evening to solidify some of the concepts for his upcoming quiz. No concerns to note."
"We began the session working on one of the student's Physics assignments concerning work done moving objects in 1 and 2 dimensions, as well as gravitational force between two bodies. Once completing that, we moved on to begin reviewing topics for his upcoming Algebra 2 tests, which is composed of all questions from previous exams throughout the semester. We were getting into different methods of finding rational and irrational zeroes of polynomials. Our next session is to be determined in preparation for his Algebra final exam."
"In this session we worked on twoway frequency tables, sometimes called crosstabs. The student caught on quickly about the purpose of the tables and how to read them. We also spent some time calculating percentages and converting back and forth between percents, decimals, and fractions."
"Today the student and I touched base on the tests that she had given me during our last session. I had prepared a small information sheet for her to use in the future when doing homework problems with the material from those associated tests in order to help her to remember some of the rules of graphing logarithmic and exponential functions. She had a quiz that we also went over that was primarily focused on rational functions and their end behaviors. I have decided to prepare some work for her to be done next time and also before we meet the following time that goes into detail about long division of polynomials, definitions of the pertinent functions with their associated laws, and better examples of graph transformations."
"Parametric Equations (finding horizontal and vertical tangents).
Surfaces of revolution parametric equations.
Arclength.
Extra practice was assigned for each of the topics gone over."

"We reviewed polynomials, synthetic division, polynomial substitution, and reviewed the student's assignments for the rest of the week. We also prepared a booklet of review material that was requested by his teacher to help raise his grade."
"Today the student and I worked on his math homework. He seems to have improved in the subject of complementary and supplementary angles, as well as understanding how to solve for a variable or an angle given a diagram using the concept of vertical angles."
