Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"We practiced on rational functions like finding intercepts, asymptotes, holes, domain and range. She struggled a bit with a few functions that were unusual like degenerate rational functions which form basically a line. She also had some problems with finding domain & range. She was generally well-disposed in diligently working the dozen or so exercises on this area in Pre-Cal. "
"We practiced several problems on graphing rational functions with slant asymptotes. These problems take a while to complete but they cover a lot of topics from earlier sections, so they're good practice."
"We primarily went through the midterm, solving the problems that the student missed. We worked on rationalizing denominators and simplifying fractional exponents. We discussed what materials were available for the class (and that it would be best for her to send me her lecture PPTs and homework assignments so I can see what the professor is focusing on and teaching at the moment). We discussed how she might approach certain kinds of problems. We set up our regular meetings to be on Tuesdays from 3:30-5 and Saturdays from 1:00-2:30."
"We reviewed a quiz that the student was given a chance to redo. We covered that and some of the pre-calculus concepts. He told me that he was fine on his comp-sci class, and that it was math he needed help with."
"We reviewed algebraic equation expansion and simplification as well as the difference quotient and a number of problem solutions. The student is getting a better understanding of the solution methods as well as the theory concepts. We also discussed limits and derivatives as well as rate of change problems."
"We reviewed another practice test for the student's test tomorrow. We went through each problem and the strategy to solve it. Topics included finding zeros and asymptotes of rational polynomials, graphing polynomials, and finding real and imaginary zeros of polynomials. She has improved her level of confidence, but I think she can continue to work on improving this. We also need to continue working with the graphing calculator to make sure she knows how to use it correctly."
