Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"The student improved on his last quiz, and that is encouraging progress. He started a new chapter on exponential functions and logarithms. We spent the session going over his homework assignment. We reviewed the key concepts on how to solve these two functions and how they are related. By the end of the session, he appeared to have a solid understanding on how to tackle the questions. We then spent the last 1/2 hour of the session starting the next material, including graphing exponential functions and logs. Hopefully this exposure in our session will give him an advantage when he eventually learns this in class."
"I helped the student with a pre-calc assignment. We then started reviewing for her unit test that she has next Friday. We went over the main concepts and then I had her do practice problems on number line analysis, solving inequalities, and graphing rational functions."
"We went over his homework assignment on logs: evaluating, expanding, contracting and solving equations. He was able to complete most of it on his own. He made a few errors leaving out parentheses, but was able to fix his mistakes when I pointed them out."
"We covered graphing csc, sec, tan, cot functions. I have no concerns from the session, and I left her with a website to look at that graphs functions very well, just so that she can see them and play around with them on her own."
"We finished up the student's pre-calculus project today. She seemed to have a good understanding of how we fit a sine function to the given data. We started to work on some two-dimensional motion physics problems as well. The student did well with the concept that the x and y-components have to be dealt with independently."
"The student and I met at the library. We continued working problems from her Math course and covered two sections: 2.1 Linear & Quadratic Functions; 2.2 Power Functions w/ Modeling. She showed good speed and intuition. Terrific session. Next session will be on Monday."
"We continued working through pre-calc assignments and then moved to Excel to work on workbook functions using different functions (assigning table arrays, using nested IF functions, and other managements tools within the software)."
"The student had a very short trig assignment. It was just determined values for different trig functions using the unit circle and fundamental special right triangles. We were able to take an hour and work on some English/verbal/reading in the little assessment prep book. With additional vocab and practice her reading on the assessment should become quite solid."
"During this session we went over the student's past quiz and began reviewing new material including composite functions, exponential equations and log. She did good on her quiz. I provided her with solutions to homework problems to review on her own and told her to ask me if she had any questions. I am also working to put together some problems for her to review over this weekend. There are no concerns from this session."
"A little precal: interest and percent change; notes on rounding error. physics: free-body diagrams, Newton's Laws, sines & cosines to decompose forces in a coordinate system. Good job! The student had it by the end."
"The student and I worked through her complex numbers homework, adding and multiplying complex number and also using the conjugate to simplify other problems into standard form. Then, we worked through some questions she had from a PSAT practice test."
"During this session we focused on precalc. We looked at problems dealing with finding the vertex of parabolic functions, changing to vertex form by completing the square. Overall this session went well."
