Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"We worked on problems involving titration reactions today. This involved problems that deal with molar mass, moles, molarity, and volumes. Also, he practiced oxidation reactions and additionally worked on problems involving light reactions and the spectrum of wavelengths."
"Reviewed vocabulary and basic introductory phrases from first lesson. The student had practiced a lot since first lesson. Learned more numbers. Talked about how to tell time and how to conjugate regular verbs. Practiced pronunciation by reading from a picture book."
"For math, I covered estimation with her by choosing the best estimate for each capacity, drawing to match each object to a reasonable capacity. We also completed the problem solving, test practice, and vocabulary choices of the section. For reading, we had to underline the suffix in each word and write a sentence for each. As for social studies, we read the chapter of "Declaring Independence" by covering the Declaration of Independence, its importance, and the steps to independence. Last, we answered the questions on constellation, galaxy, universe, stars, and the sun for science."
"Today, we began by letting the first student take a test. He got 8 out of 10 on the questions. Then we read our syllable book and had him answer some questions from there. I had the second student read her book and then the syllable book as well and asked her questions from there."
"We went to the online copy of the book and worked through a few problems from section 3.2. These covered the same concepts as we did in our last session, but the student felt that she needed more practice to get them down. This time I gave her a breakdown of the whole process to take notes on, which helped her to feel confident in working these problems."
"The student and I worked on outlining his essay on The Great Gatsby for English class. He chose to write about female characters in The Great Gatsby. He astutely noted how all the women in the book are objectified and used by the male characters to some extent. We outlined the entire paper and he completed his introduction paragraph by the end of the session. I asked the student to keep a journal of how he spends his time in order to assist with time management."
"We continued to work on finding the area of a triangle. In addition, we reviewed word problems. The student has a good concept of elapsed time and geometry. He needs continued work on his number line calculation."
"We worked on the English section today. We focused on timing and also on eliminating bad answer choices. It was good to see him doing more on the intensive reading sections."
"I met with Alex and continued his reading, writing and vocabulary lesson. He did cooperate for most of the session and wrote words down that we read. I also had him construct simple sentences, with my help."
