Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"The student and I did the sequencing for his comic strip. We worked on selecting scenes to illustrate, making sure they were in correct order, and selecting quotes to go with each scene. After we finished that, we reviewed the five reviews."
"Today the student and I reviewed for his math test this week as well as his upcoming vocabulary test. We then discussed the next steps to complete his thesis paper."
"In our most recent session, the student and I began by reviewing the study materials that we had prepared for his upcoming map test in history on the Byzantine empire. After a few rounds of review, he knew the material well. We moved on to his English work, which was a continuation of his class study of the Odyssey, and discussed the themes of recognition and unveiling that are present in the work overall, as manifested in book 13. We underlined passages together, and talked about and researched unfamiliar characters to provide a more thorough understanding of the writing."
"He had a writing project and a writing assignment to work on. We began by going over what he started for the project. He had to create a sound track for the characters in the book Twelfth Night. Together we searched some songs that fit the characters adequately. I looked over his paragraph on the connections to the songs and did some editing. When that project was complete, we worked on his writing assignment that is due Monday. His task was to write about his future and how he saw it playing out. He chose three topics: where he would live, where he would go to school, and what his family would be like. He was able to complete both assignments."
"During this evening's meeting, we discussed different learning methods. We discussed ways in which he may be a visual learner and how he could incorporate visual aids into his study regimen. Additionally, we discussed the parts of an essay and how to construct a good essay. I also enjoyed discussing the book he is reading and listening to his description and retelling of what he is learning."
"We edited her paper over Islam/Christian attitudes towards merchants/trade industry from the religions' origins to 1500. We grouped the documents she had to use into categories- Islam/Christianity, and consistent/inconsistency. We also went over the first half of Chapter 18- which covered the West Indies/ Caribbean and the French, English, Dutch, and Spanish colonies that migrated there. This included the poor European indentured servants, the African slaves, and the private investors that composed the chartered companies."
