"[COVERED]: We discussed chemical kinetics and equilibrium. We began with a passage concerning multi-step mechanisms, catalysts, intermediates, and deriving the rate law from experimental results, as well as what information we can derive from that. This discussion naturally dovetailed into our first examination of reaction profile diagrams, showing how only the middle (i.e.: the transition state's energy) determines the rate of the reaction. We talked about how the Maxwell-Boltzmann distribution can be used to show graphically how catalysts affect the proportion of the molecules with enough energy to reach the transition state. We then launched into a full-throttled discussion of Free Energy, Enthalpy, and Entropy. We also covered Hess' Law and slated specific examples of equilibrium processes for the next time. [PROGRESS]: The student had incorporated our previous discussions of Energy, Electrostatics, Work, Heat, and State Functions well, clearly having these concepts in her pocket as we discussed the reasons for non-intuitive processes (such as the sign of the Heat required to break bonds and vice versa). I am really proud of her."
"Today we reviewed the rest of the geometry section, emphasizing circles and triangles and the necessary formulas. The student will look at the volume equations on his own. He will also look at the Data Analysis and Analytical Writing information on the assessment website and download the practice test software to do one entire practice test before our next meeting. This is essential for practicing pacing and using the computer interface to mark and return to questions. Next time we will go over any questions he has from the practice test, as well as review standard deviation, probability and permutations/combinations."
"We did more practice essay prompts, along with some extra writing time. The student was in a good mood, but her confidence wavered when she did not perform as well as she would like. We did practice sets for quantitative problems, and this is where that was most apparent. She is going to take a practice test to see where she stands, and we will go over that next time to review."
