Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"Our goal of this session was to prepare the student for her exam. We worked on the problems that she mentioned. We studied the range and domain, then we moved to interpreting the scattered plots. We spent most of the time on modifying two variable equations into the formula of slope-intercept format and also we worked on plugging numbers in place of one variable and find the other variable. We worked through problems together and then had her do the problems by herself and let me know the parts she had questions on. I left her with some practice problems and I am going to send her some more problems, so she can work on them everyday until our next session."
"This session the student wanted to begin by going over his homework which was on percents and ratios. For the most part, he understands the material and is ready to move to the next concept. Afterward, we did more work with the textbook, and reviewed how to identify the constants, coefficients, variables, and factors of a term or expression. We also talked about the product property of exponents, which he seemed to understand so I gave him homework on the subject, along with the baseline test for the textbook."
"Today I worked with the student on her homework; the concepts covered were transformations, identifying them and transforming them onto the graph. We were able to get through her entire assignment. My other student needed to finish his homework on one step equations multiplying and dividing. After we finished we looked ahead and started working on solving inequalities."
"The student had two sections of homework to review. The first was on hyperbolas, both graphing and coming up with the equation in standard form with given information. The second section had various conic sections to identify and graph. There was a mix of circles, parabolas, ellipses, and hyperbolas. The student had a little trouble deciding which was which until I showed her a good way to tell the difference."
"I covered measuring objects using inches and centimeters. The student was taught how to measure different items from a workbook. He was shown how to use the edge of his ruler to measure. I also included some teaching strategies and study skills which I had him practice. He has a workbook that he uses as extra practice."
"I continued to work with the student on definite integration, working problems involving properties of the integral, u-substitution, and averages. She has an excellent understanding of the material."
