Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"The student's class is working on learning how to use derivatives to find velocity and acceleration equations. He seems to be doing really well with it overall; he just needed some explanation on a few of the more complicated steps."
"The student's high grade on her graphing test shows that her confidence in the class is increasing. We reviewed some new exercises and talked about big picture math. She is converting number forms much more seamlessly, and was able to follow as I talked about grouping numbers when using money and time."
"The student's homework consisted of only three questions, all related to the new unit on irrational numbers. We reviewed those questions pretty quickly, and then we spent the rest of our time doing additional practice problems requiring the use of logarithms. The extra practice seemed to make a difference, as she seemed more comfortable in her approach to the problems. About half of the extra problems used Newton's law of cooling, and I think she gained a greater appreciation of the practical applications of mathematics."
"The student's homework focused on finding the intersection point of two equations and solving equations for x. Overall, I think she's doing very well with the material. She particularly handled the word problem well and seemed to really understand what the numbers and variables were representing."
"The student's math class is going very slowly. She is bored in class, so we are going over more challenging subjects. She is doing well."
"The student's mom forwarded me an assessment he took last week, and his main area of struggle was adding and subtracting fractions and mixed numbers with different denominators. I asked him to solve a problem for me to identify what his confusion was. From there, we worked on adding and subtracting fractions and mixed numbers with reducing for the entire time. I showed him two different strategies, and he picked the one that worked best for him. By the end of the session, he had a firm grip on the math. I reminded him to continue working on his multiplication facts. He was really enthusiastic about his math, and did a really great job!"
