Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"The student worked hard on trig for the session, requiring only a little direction at the beginning to refresh his memory of the process. He still sometimes struggles with SOH-CAH-TOA, but I reiterated that there's nothing wrong with writing it down at the top of his paper each time he starts a new assignment. He just needs to continue to practice the processes outside of class."
"The student worked through 20-word problems today. A few were pretty tricky but, as always, she hung in there until she understood how to get the correct answers. The math topics included probability, ratios, linear equations, and interest calculation. She also brought a word problem to the session for us to work. It was challenging for her, because it was the first time two variables were needed for the simultaneous equations."
"The student worked very well today. We got through all of his homework, even some that was due on Friday. He had no trouble completing his math, and he was very efficient with his English. In math, he had some trouble with ordering and correctly writing negative absolute values, but we worked together on it and will review it next week."
"The student worked well today. First, we went over his vocabulary/spelling words, and he completed the exercise with minimal assistance. Next, he worked through a word problem dealing with elapsed time. I showed him how to use military time to work through the problem, and he seemed to understand the concept quite well for seeing it the first time. Bravo. Lastly, we worked through a paragraph on subject and predicate, and again, he completed the assignment with no errors."
"The student's Algebra 2 midterm is Wednesday this week. The primary focus of this session was to test his knowledge of the review packet that he has completed for the class. He relies heavily on technology in math, both when completing homework assignments and studying for tests. This includes using both calculators and internet programs. However, during the test review, we limited the number of devices to just the graphing calculator because he claims he is able to use it during the test. While performing the test review, we made a list of the properties that he needs to review, such as exponent rules, logarithmic properties, fraction rules, etc. The goal is for him to continue working on the topics that he is struggling with independently. We will test on those topics Tuesday."
"The student's algebra class is now working on inequalities. Today I helped him solve and graph inequalities involving multiplication and division. He struggled at first to keep his inequality signs pointing the right direction, but he got the hang of it soon afterwards."
