Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"The student and I went over a short review he wrote for an article about a zoo in Mexico. He is conjugating verbs well but needs more exposure to the language so that he can recall vocabulary."
"Today we continued to talk about numbers above 100. Furthermore, we talked about prepositions of place."
"We previewed content from the student's next chapter on school, schedules, reviewed verb ser, and reviewed subject pronouns."
"The student and I worked through half of the vocabulary list of chapter 7 and discussed the formation of the perfect passive participle. We then worked through a translation sentence from our online text. If she has time this week, I suggested that she finish reviewing chapter 7 vocab, read the information I gave her on participles, and try to finish translating the sentence we began today. I'm definitely seeing improvement in her recognition and translation of Latin cases. She was always great at identifying the correct case, but often struggled to put that knowledge into her English translations. I've seen definite improvement in this over the past few weeks."
"The student did great tonight. He demonstrated his strong command of this material. We did one of the items off the Grammatical Justification exercise, then we returned to the Latin story we're translating called "The Adventures of Io." He really hunkered down with each sentence and poured out the grammar, so I didn't interrupt, as I was enjoying watching him be on such a roll. He tore through a lot of the story, with very few grammar mistakes. Excellent work tonight!"
"The student is taking the last portion of her Latin final exam on Monday, which consists of a culture section and an analysis section. She feels very comfortable with the culture, so we spend the majority of our time practicing with the analysis. We went through the passages from which the teacher is going to pick, and translated them together. In addition, throughout the passages I would quiz her on grammatical concepts such as verb tenses, voices, and moods, or the uses of the cases. This should help her to better understand the texts and prepare her for her last part of the final. This is our last session together this year, and we plan to pick up where we left off in the fall."
