Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"The student earned a 90 on his last exam. Today we reviewed exponents, their functions, the affect of their signs, word problems, and graphing for y=... We also had an excellent portion of the session where we manually assigned x the values of -3 to +3 to solve for y."
"Today we worked on a homework assignment for Chapter 12. The problems contained concepts dealing with similar triangles, ratios and the Pythagorean theorem. We also went over the Chapter 12 review to help prepare her for the upcoming final. She seemed to have a pretty good understanding of many of the topics. She is going to send me the reviews for chapters 8 and 9 so we can cover that material in our next session."
"We worked on systems of linear equations with three variables. We also went over her previous tests to correct errors. The student has shown significant improvement overall. When she completes math problems, she has been double-checking her work and reducing the number of errors. I asked her to make flashcards for the properties and definitions she has covered in the four chapters. This also will help her improve with definition questions."
"We worked with solving inequality equations with one or two variables. The student understands how to solve them and graph them. We also worked on setting up word problems. I made up word problem examples for him to work."
"Today the student and I worked on her homework related to polar coordinates. We then worked on her AP calculus book and focused on differentiation problems. I also assigned her the rest of the differentiation questions, and we agreed on getting ahead of what she will be covering in class."
"We worked on problems involving series and sequences. Specifically, we solved problems that touched on the rules of convergence and divergence for series. The last few minutes, we worked on the binomial series and its applications."
"The student and I did two timed tests. He did really well, especially after skipping the ones he didn't know immediately. Afterwards, we talked about those he skipped, and he noticed they all involved multiplying by 9's. We will focus on such problems in future sessions."
"Together we did a review of parabolas and quadratics. New topics we looked at included the discriminant, quadratic inequalities, and finding the domain and range of a quadratic."
"We went over finding domains of functions, finding the inverse of a given function, and other material that will be covered on his test tomorrow. The student was able to understand the material covered during the session."
"We went over optimization problems. I haven't seen his test scores yet, but I can tell he is doing much better. This is a difficult section, and he seems to be grasping the material quickly."
"We covered a review given to him prior to his test. This involved combining dislike functions under one domain, graphing quadratics, factoring the difference of cubes, determining equations, and simplifying exponents. Then we discussed momentum and its conversion for elastic and inelastic collisions."
"We reviewed for the pupil's exam. We covered long division, factoring, and finding zeroes. He had completed a good amount of the review given by his teacher. He is improving."
