Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"I selected problems for sixth graders, such as division of decimals by decimals, word problems about proportions, geometric shapes, and angles. The student needed a little prodding, but once I explained how to address the problems, he caught on and/ or recollected the process. I gave him feedback, advice, and encouragement. I discussed the results with his mother."
"I spent most of my time with the student today learning how to manipulate functions. We shifted and stretched the equations, and then determined the domain and range of each function. His sister just had a test in pre-calculus, so we looked at functions and multiplicity."
"I spoke with the student about how the previous week went in school, did practice problems involving using positives and negatives, did a review of order of operations, and some basic algebra. The student was a bit worried about his math class Monday, because the teacher said they were using monomials -- so we googled monomials and I helped him to see that he was already working with them and doing an awesome job. We reviewed some spelling and talked about rules in spelling. The plan for our next session on Tuesday is to review any questions/homework, spend some time introducing binomials, and work on spelling (I have a spelling program I'm going to pull from based on the assessment I did and the work we did today)."
"I started by explaining the basics: square numbers, prime numbers, and perfect numbers. We did a lot of examples, and then the student worked independently and I checked his work. The attitude of the student was great! I gave him some strategies for the material, and then we also reviewed the homework he had for school."
"I started today's session by drilling the student on the multiplication tables that he hasn't yet mastered. Afterwards, since he had no math homework today, I took some problems from his math book on multiplying and dividing problems in scientific notation. I then assigned him several problems to do as homework."
"I supported the student with math today. Concepts reinforced included practicing his multiplication facts x7 and x9 and I also gave him resources to practice his facts. He did well on his 9's and needs to continue to practice his 7's."
