Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"The student did very well today. She's very close to completing her math facts warm-up in 7 minutes. We worked through several math problems and decided to work on converting measurements. She has excellent reasoning skills and remembers a lot of strategies from her teacher. I'd like to work on assisting the student in organizing her work so we can easily find where she has shown her calculations. We will review previous assessments as well to determine any other areas with which the student needs assistance."
"The student had homework in both reading and math. In Math, she needed to do number sentences. She did them all correctly and quickly. In Reading, I gave her a spelling test in preparation for the real one the next day. I wrote the words on index cards that she had wrong and told her to write them over and over for homework so she will get a 100% on her spelling test. She also finished reading all the prescribed pages from her reading book. Because she did well in all of her work, I read to her from a book she got at the school book fair."
"The student has a test tomorrow on multiplying and dividing decimals, so during the first part of the lesson, I did a review on these operations. I demonstrated a few problems on multiplying a decimal by a whole number. Next, I had her solve a few problems from the textbook. She was able to solve the problems on her own. Then, I demonstrated multiplying two decimals and had her solve some problems on her own. She was able to solve those problems independently. I repeated the same procedures for dividing decimals. She was able to correctly solve those problems. I also discussed adding and subtracting decimals. Finally, I reviewed a few multiplication facts with her."
"The student has become significantly better at his regular multiplication tables. During our future sessions, I intend to challenge him with his multiplication by having him complete a scrambled multiplication table. Today, we went over more complex division problems. I am trying to step back and allow him to solve his problems on his own. Beginning next week, I hope to learn more about his teachers and what they intend to teach him throughout the year so I can focus our sessions towards what he is learning in class."
"The student has been accepted into the Pre-Algebra class for 6th graders, so today I started previewing terminology that he will see in Pre-Algebra. I am looking for a application problem workbook for him. He seems very motivated!"
"The student has been doing extremely well during his recent tutoring sessions. He is working very hard and making huge strides. Today we continued working on his subtraction facts and moved into adding up to three digit numbers. He took to the 'counting up' strategy when doing subtraction and seemed to really enjoy finding success with it."
